If you have an HTC Vivid, you can now update to Ice Cream Sandwich by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates. Android 4.0 only ran on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but we are about to see a landslide of phones being able to update. Ice Cream Sandwich will bring Vivid owners HTC Sense 3.6, Beats Audio, an improved email system, Face Unlock and an updated user interface.
Although being able to update to Android 4.0 is a large jump from 2.3, ICS really isn’t bringing much to the table for the HTC Vivid. Users are still stuck with the Sense UI instead of the new, classy Android look. They are still stuck with the capacitive buttons on the front of the phone instead of Android 4.0′s on-screen buttons. They are still stuck with HTC’s launcher and widgets…
If Google wants to build a great mobile OS, they should require every smartphone running Ice Cream Sandwich to be like a Nexus device… Stock Android, no physical buttons on the front, no custom launchers or themes, no bloatware. Unfortunately, the HTC Vivid does not have any of this and only experienced Android users would even notice a change from 2.3 to 4.0 on this smartphone.
