Harry Potter fans will be happy to know that J.K. Rowling’s book series is now available in multiple eBook formats. Kindle users can download the book directly from Amazon (like any other Kindle book), but iBooks and Nook users are restricted to using Pottermore.com. Books purchased from Pottermore will be downloaded as an ePub book, which can be viewed on Nook and iOS devices. The first three books of the series are available for $7.99 and the last four cost $9.99. Extreme fans who want all seven books at once with get a 10% discount from Pottermore.
From what we have seen lately, authors are making more money by offering their books on Kindle, iBooks, and other formats. If I were an author, I would release the hardback book, then paperback, then eBook… That way extreme fans will own a print version and the electronic version. Most authors and publishing companies offer their popular books on Kindle and iBooks, but older authors are avoiding the system. Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, has sold millions of paper copies of the book but refuses to sell eBook copies. After more and more eBooks are released, I think authors will eventually catch on.
