Picnik, a popular photo editing website, is shutting down on April 19, 2012. It was purchased by Google in 2010 which leads us to believe that Picnik will be reopening exclusively on Google Plus. If you are a current Picnik Premium subscriber, you will be fully refunded and still retain Premium access for free until Picnik shuts down. You may download current photos that are saved on Picnik until April 19th.
I am glad that Picnik is shutting down. Although they have some neat picture effects, many people can get out of hand with the service adding stickers and effects to every picture. Picnik made it too easy to share photos directly to Facebook, so all edited photos ended up on my News Feed. It is not that Picnik is a bad program, it just appears very unprofessional compared to a complex photo editor such as Photoshop. My advice to anyone who uses Picnik is to use a free program called Gimp or buy Photoshop Elements.
